Sanctity of Life

Today, across the United States, people observed "Sanctity of Life" Sunday in their Churches.  God's Word tells us in Psalm 139:13 - 16:

"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
 all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be."

Do you see what the Lord is telling us?  All of our days were ordained before even one of them came to be.  That means the Lord had a purpose for us even before the moment of conception. Conception...LIFE.  A number of years ago (a lady never shares her true age, right?), a young woman found herself in the doctor's office.  I don't know what the technology was like then, but I would venture to guess ultrasounds were not as commonplace as they are these days and certainly not three or four-dimensional imaging that allows the features of a baby's face to be clearly seen on a screen.  The doctor told this young woman that she had a "mass" growing and that he would need to perform a D&C procedure to remove it for her well-being.  Perhaps this young woman felt a nudging from the Holy Spirit, as she decided she really should seek a second opinion with another doctor.  This second doctor did, indeed, confirm there was a growing "mass" inside her body....but could anything prepare her for the next words to come out of his mouth?  "Young lady," I imagine him saying, "you are pregnant."  I believe, deep down, it was the LORD's Providence that urged this woman to seek a second opinion....for HE had a purpose for this child.    This child has, herself, grown into a woman; she has given birth to her own children and watched as one of them became a mother herself.  Her purpose has not been fully realized, but all of her days have certainly been ordained and written in HIS book.  This "mass", as the first doctor phrased it, is.....ME!  I may not have always had a close relationship with my mother, but one thing is for certain.  I will be forever grateful that she chose....LIFE!

Today, I urge you, if you find yourself pregnant, afraid, and alone, to seek wise counsel.  There are people who are more than willing, without judgement, to minister to you, to love you, to help you prepare for the life growing inside of you, the life that the LORD ordained long before you could imagine it.  Please find a Care-Net Pregnancy Center near you at http://www.care-net.org/.

    "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward."
